W00t! I have scammers fighting over who can send me money first.  Maybe, just maybe, we can get the police actually interested in this, since thus far I've been 100% unable to get them remotely interested in arresting these scumbags.

By the way, my response was something along the lines of "I'll take the advertisement off Craigs list when the money is in my hands, and my name & address", which of course is public knowledge.  I did not provide them my cell, since I know there are some scams where they can charge to my cell #.

Should be interesting over the next couple days to see how this rolls.

I advertised a sofa for sale. Got an email last night from "Tim Nauman" aka brandonlawrance@gmail.com who forwards his mail to pmoon01@gmil.com. He took the letter "a" out of mail in the "pmoon address" so that when I responded, I got a return mail error message.

Whoever this is has nothing better to do than create fake emails and read Craigs List to suggest they want purchase things they have no intention of buying. He thinks he is really clever. Imagine the time he spends creating fake email identities. A child can do that. Will someone send him a job offer to keep him off of Craigs List?

Or, notifying Google about his antics might permanently prevent him from obtaining email accounts.

One out of every three people who show an interest in items I sell on Craigs List are kooks like this.

Whenever I get one of these, I forward the email to abuse@gmail.com with a quick copy of the mail header to prove that it came from their servers. I've yet to get a response saying "Thank you we've disabled that waste of oxygen's attempt at scamming" or something along those lines, but eh, I keep trying.

I got this within the last hour. It seemed suspicious to me so I searched Google for "Tim Nauman" hearing impaired Craigs List and here we are. I responded with Cash Only, Will Remove Post When Transaction is Completed. How incredibly sad that someone would be so small as to waste that much time playing childish games such as this.

I received a response from this guy, but he first responded from his cell phone. Mistake on his behalf?

Email shows:
Tim Nauman
Sent from my HTC smartphone on the Now Network from Sprint
from another email address of dumblickpaul40@gmail.com

The next email I received was from his pmoon01 gmail account. Is there really no way to hold this creep accountable?

I received the same email a last week from a woman named Jane. I had some things posted on CL. You want to get these scammers good? Do what I did.....It worked, as the local paper had an article on the investigation. This is what I did. I answered Jane back with all the info she asked for......I went online looked up the local Ploice Department, Gave her the phone number of the Investigations department, also gave her the address of the police department, The name I used was one I found of one of the Detectives. Jane obviously followed thru, and sent Detective, Police Department, a Bogus, faked, forged check. Give it a try.....They will have little choice of getting involved if they are made a part of this scam.

This same creep msg me last night to buy our piano. What a jerk! We need the money badly so we don't loose our rental and he has the gumpshoun to pull this. People like this should be punished.

I went through with the entire situation, not thinking about it and being desperate for cash, the check came from VA, The envelope it came in was delivered from Mesa AZ and the check was for almost 2000 dollars over the amount. It's the same message verbatum and the same name. Though the name on the check is Michael Lindsey, so if anyone wants to research that go right ahead and be my guest. I on the other hand am going to find a way to fuck this scamming trash out of his money, being that I know the system a little more than he/she does.

Unknown said...

The only person you're going to get money from is the bank, and that'll only be temporary.

My advice would be to contact your local police, hand the check to them and explain what has happened up until now. They may or may not work with you, but honestly, that's about all that's left.

Unless you can use the company that shipped the check to track down the guys address, hunt him down, and beat the living shit out of him...which is always an option. If you do find his/her address, post it here as I suspect that there are many who'd like to lend a hand when it comes to the beating.

Got this email last night trying to sell a stroller (A STROLLER?!? Who is this creep!?). It originally came from email cardren222@gmail.com asking if the item was still for sale, and when I replied that it was I got the email detailed above from pmoon. I knew immediately it was a scam so I googled him and this came up. Thanks for keeping us informed as craigslisters! I simply responded with "cash only - I won't delete posting until transaction is complete" and I seriously doubt I'll hear anything back. What a creep.

I'm advertising a printer at Craigslist and received the following email in response to my ad there:

================================
from: nanhardson3@gmail.com via craigslist.org
reply-to: kbarntt@gmail.com
subject: RICOH AP2000 Laser Printer = New In Box! Prints On 11X17 Paper! - $325 (Damascus)

Hi,Just want to know if you still have this items available?

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note™, an AT&T LTE smartphone

================================

Please notice the language. 'this items' is very poor English.

I responded to both email addresses and told them it was still available.

This is their response to my email letter:

Here is what would happen if I sent them my details. They would most likely request that UPS or FedEX deliver their "certified check" and UPS/FedEX would also pick up my printer.

I would then deposit the check into my bank account, the funds MIGHT become available (or they might not). Regardless, even if the funds became available to me, the bank would find out later on that the "CERTIFIED CHECK" IS A FAKE and guess WHO would end up holding the 'bag'? The bank would DEMAND that I pay back the amount on the check.

So if I were a fool, I would end up giving away the printer for FREE to the CROOKS.

So my advice to everybody is to be VERY careful. Many so-called money orders or bank checks are FAKE (COUNTERFEIT) and will BOUNCE later on, might even take WEEKS before you are notified by your bank that you owe them the amount stated on the FAKE CHECK!

So be careful! That's why Craigslist advises people to ONLY DEAL LOCALLY and to REQUIRE CASH UP FRONT. It is too easy for you to get ROBBED via FAKE CHECKS/MONEY ORDERS!!

He's still at it (Pablo Gonzalez, Hieu <sadllawee17@gmail.com). I did respond. If the check actually comes I will take it to the police to see if they will pursue trying to locate the guy. If he uses the USPS this becomes a federal offense and I will pursue from that angle If I am lucky enough to get something to happen I will post to this site

I just got hit by Pablo Gonzalez, Hieu <sadllawee17@gmail.com. I'm going to try what one of the earlier people did... I'm going to give them the police detective phone #, address, and name of one of the detectives. Hopefully it'll work. I'll keep you updated.

I too received a reply from Tim Nauman aka pmoon01@gmail.com. The original email came from chloeryh@gmail.com. I was selling numerous items from a living room totaling about $2600. He had the same email as everyone else with the exception of the hearing impaired thing. I was bored and pretended I fell for it and gave him all the info to send me a check..and he did! It took about 3 weeks of going back and forth but he did send it. The check was from a school here in MA, The Perkins School for the Blind. I contacted them and they knew all about it, I guess I wasn't the first person who received a fake check with their logo, however, I did get the impression that it was an actual account at some point. The woman I spoke with was very evasive, she wouldn't give me the name of someone in law enforcement who was handling thief case. It was Vy frustrating because I had Tim Nauman waiting for me to wire this money. U did file a complaint with IC3.com and put Tim off for a while but no one ever contacted me. I ended up giving him a fake western union conf #, sawed around with him for a while. My last email I said "thankYou for the entertainment, now you know ow it feels to be screwed over by a scammer" it was pretty funny. I have 35 emails of us going back and forth. He really thought he had me so the last few were pretty amusing as he was begging me to 'please send the money now"
